Kick up the bum!!

With the arrival of my study guides for this semester, I received a fair kick up the bum to get moving on my scholarship. Not that I had been doing nothing on it, rather a lot was going on in my head but not much was reaching the keyboard. So today I sat down and started sorting out my brainstorming ramblings to resemble something legible. *Pat on the back*

So there really isn't anything new to share but I would like the readers to share something - if you have ever done research or perhaps uni assignments or any assignments, how do you overcome procrastination or writers block? Ideas would be welcome. Also any ideas on how to manage things with a small child (almost 1yr old) would be appreciated too!!

Hi Sharon, It's a long time since I managed a small child, I remember that I didn't get time to do much reading, and study was only possible with TAFE childcare. I'm studying too, not only at CSU, but a little online course as well (learning 23 things). Hence the reply to your blog ... I've had to create one too. I hope you dont mind that I put a link to yours from mine.
I'm really good at procrastinating ..I read somewhere its got to do with fear of success!
I find a weekly timetable helps. one weekend day for one subject and one day or a couple of nights for another. I take annual leave days before assignments are due, so I can write them up. I set out my assignments well in advance, and create a word budget; that way I can fill in the 'blanks' as I complete my research. Just this process is enought to kick me on. Once I sit down to it I'm fine, even if I just aim for a paragraph, I usually find that once I start, I cant stop. My invaluable tool is my study group. A small group of friends; we all study different things, but we meet in the ERC at Melbourne Uni on weekends. Good access to the internet and printing, powerpoints for our laptops, big tables for note taking and it's quiet for reading. We find we get alot done, and sometimes it's good to discuss an assignment to get an objective view. Cheers, Barbara

Hello there! I have a little experience trying to "finish" (ha ha)projects with a little one-(mine will be 4 yrs old in a couple weeks) don't stress- it gets better once the child is 18 mos. and even better at 2 yrs... after that you're running! I know you've got deadlines but don't be too hard on yourself- a 1 year old or younger is still at quite a consuming stage of life! I found it helped me enormously to get a capable neighbor girl (could be a boy) to come over and "babysit" while I worked on projects and she even helped me with some tasks in the kitchen (dishwasher, sweeping)and other things around the house. She became a wiz at washing and waxing our vehicles, too. It was a amazing how proud my little helper was to get a few dollars per hour. Yours could get trained in general household duties/childcare, and be thrilled to come over, especially if they love babies and children! You might get a schedule of a few coming over and this could lead to a future babysitter(s) when your child is older and you need to leave the house. Hope this helps!
